The Cherry Company Ltd has been bringing Japanese food culture to Hawaii for over 100 years.
Management Philosophy
My management philosophy is this “Customers always come first, for all employees to achieve happiness in both mind and matter, and for our company to revitalize and contribute to Hawaii’s economy”. To achieve these principals, first it must be clear on the goals of this undertaking. Secondly to be able to care for high quality sake, shochu, Japanese foods and kitchen supplies at a reasonable price. In the long run we must diligently strive to grow our sales, lower our cost and to work with and contribute to our customer’s ever growing and developing business.
Company History
The Company’s history traces back to the Sayegusa family who started in 1895, they brought Miso and Shoyu from Japan to Hawaii in addition to numerous other items.
The Sayegusa family sold the rights to the business in 1970 to the Kirin Holdings Company Ltd, in Japan. Kirin Beer was introduced to the U.S. market through Cherry Co., with offices in California and New York. In 1988 the company was purchased by the Mutual Trading Company Inc Los Angeles. Our presdent is Mr. Noritoshi Kanai whos efforts brought Japanese food to the world.
Distributed over 1,300 Restaurant
Today, The Cherry Company, LTD. imports about 1,500 high quality food ingredients, sake, shochu, beer, and other items from Japan, Southeast Asia, and the U.S. mainland. These are distributed to over 1,300 restaurant, hotel, and supermarket customers throughout the islands of Hawaii. Through the support of our customers, the company is able to continue its service to Hawaii.
“Perseverance breeds success”
Operating under the motto, “Perseverance breeds success,” The Cherry Company has held a Food Show in Honolulu to introduce the newest Japanese foods, drinks and preparation techniques into the trade. This year marks the 13th annual Food Show.
Lastly, each September The Cherry Company, holds a golf Tournament. Our staff would like to have everyone enjoy the comradety and friendly competition it brings. We will be holding our 22nd annual gulf tournament this year.
